I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator about 2 months ago, and I'm beginning to think I got a lemon. It is once again (this is the fourth time) not making ice. A few days ago, it stopped dispensing water (out of the blue, of course) for almost a day. I have no water pressure problems, no toddlers to mess with it and screw it up, and it starts working again on its own each time these things happen. The random no ice thing is a big problem, as it's a side-by-side, and the freezer space is limited enough without having ice cube trays cluttering it up. Anyway, my question is, has anyone else had problems that magically go away on their own and for which there are no apparent reasons with a Whirlpool refrigerator? Is there anything I should know before I call their customer service on Monday - such as, any excuses they might use to make it appear that their product isn't the problem? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. My sincere thanks, in advance, to anyone who answers :)

They call it a "Whirlpool" for a reason. The whole idea is you put one of those in your home and in addition to whatever else it does it generates endless confusion and ultimately a very perplexed soul. That thing is drawing you into a vortex of spiritual chaos and weird logical distortions that can only end if you get it out quick and call the Maytag man. Hey Maytag!!!
It's a fine Christian brand and will treat you much better.

Here's the simplest thing to check: on many models, there is a wire arm that rotates up after ice cubes are made and released, and then rotates down slowly as the tray is refilled with water. The purpose of the arm is to detect a full ice container and stop the ice making process in that event.
If this arm gets moved to the top position, no ice cubes are made. If something impedes its motion, no ice cubes are made. So make sure neither of these situations exists.

If it's Whirlpool, it's Sears... Surely it's still under warranty. You should call 'em to come out and fix it. In fact, I'd call 'em even if you have to pay. I've never been disappointed by them.

Some spot along the length of your feeder hose is icing up. It's probably a portion that is internal and you'll need an appliance repair person to get to it & either isolate or insulate it.

Good luck.

Sounds like a clogged filter. it should be between your plumbing hook-up and the fridge. Replace it with a bigger one.
