My family (two adults, three young children) are flying into Amsterdam Schiphol and renting a car. We want to meet some of our family in Amsterdam before we continue our trip, by car, south to Belgium.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel that's easy to get to by car from the Amsterdam Schiphol and also has easy (hopefully walking distance) access to a train station that can get us into central Amsterdam?

We want to avoid driving into downtown Amsterdam and renting an expensive hotel there, and the Schiphol hotels are very, very expensive as well.

Thanks in advance for any help!

How close to Schiphol do you want to be? Zandvoort isn't far and you can walk to the train station from any of the hotels there. There are 4 trains per hour to Amsterdam in the summer and the beach is nice.

There are several hotels near the airport that tend to be cheaper. They provide shuttle service to the airport where you can catch the train. The suggestion for Leiden is good too. I stay there across the street from the station.

Try http://www.hotels.nl/ This is a reliable site. I've used it for several years and never had any problems.

Hey there, How closre to the airport you wanna stay? There are 2 hotels on the airport site: Hilton and Sheraton ( quite expensive ones too).
In the vicinity of the airport there are several hotel and all of them have a shuttle back to the airport where you can catch a train to downtown (20 minutes). Check the site of the hotelchain accord (novotel/ibis etc)
Type in Amsterdam and you will get a whole list of their hotels around the airport or even a bit outside of Amsterdam. Should you decide to stay there no problem regardig transportation whatsoever as public transport is very efficient as well.
Oh I forgot that around Amsterdam (at the ring) not too far away from Schiphol and just a hop by subway ther re 2 other hotels CAMPANILE and GOLDEN TULIP INN.
Have fun shopping around

You can take the train into Amsterdam and return to the airport for your car when you ready to leave town. Or arrange to pick it up at a different train station or in town. That is often even cheaper.
The train from the airport into town takes only 20 minutes or less and cost 3.20 euro for an adult, cheaper for kids. Trains every 8 minutes or so.

You will have a wider choice if you can use all hotels in town, as well as those near the airport.
Or consider to stay in one of the smaller towns, Leiden is on the other side of the airport and takes the same time by train and is only 5 Euro each. And to Amsterdam you can take the train rather than a car.

Check for rooms/rates over at http://www.resideo.com/nl/schiphol/ -- both listed hotels are close to the airport, which is probably your best bet.

Good luck!
