It is especially lucky when playing a game involving dice. Two dice to be specific. We did this experiment in class and it actually scientifically proved that seven is a lucky number. This can be proved because when you make a chart with numbers on it from 2-12 and you roll two dice, add the numbers together and make a tally on the final number, the most frequent number you get is seven. This is because of all of the combinations of the numbers 1-6 (on the dice) seven can be obtained most times. The lower numbers, 1-6 are not as frequent because you are rolling two dice and getting mainly larger numbers. It is hard to get two high numbers on both of the dice, so the number that you will probably get the most is seven. There are also many combinations in order to get seven such as: (1,6) (2,5) (3, 4) (4,3) (5,2) (6,1). Basically, seven is not necessarily a "lucky number" but one that you could bet would win. Although there isn't a scientifical explanation for many things, if you ask a math teacher many of the things we wonder about can be answered :)

To the unaided eye there are 7 visible planets in the night sky. To the ancient world, the fact that they moved among the stars meant that they must be "gods", therefore if there are 7 "gods" in the night sky then having the favor of the "7" was lucky.
