why is that wrong? why is that considered selfish?

in baseball Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox (one of the best players of the past decade) has been asking for a trade numerous times during the past 6-7 seasons and the red sox refused and kept him and he still kept on putting up great numbers

red sox prolly until 3 years ago when the world series have always not been one of the top teams in baseball...even after that manny asked for a trade a couple of times PUBLICLY

and during those tough times in boston, manny carried the team juss like Kobe...so why is that when Manny asks for a trade, its juss manny being manny and its ok and acceptable but kobe asks for one just to improve his chances of winning a championship (WHICH EVERY PLAYER WANTS), its considered arrogant and selfish?

manny did that multiple times on espn talking about how bad the team is or whatever and wants to be on a contending team

why isn't that wrong?

The Red Sox have tried to trade Manny numerous times, no one is willing to pick up his contract. A couple seasons ago they put him on waivers and no one picked him up. And many of his problems with playing in Boston aren't about the team but the fans. He can't stand the fact that people bother him when he's doing things out on the town.

I think it is wrong because these guys sign a contract to play with a team for a specific number of years. Instead of trying to jump ship all of the time, they should focus on improving the teams they are on. In Manny's case, He was pulling down 20 million a year, and the Red Sox would have to find a team who was willing to pick up his enormous contact. Seeing how the only team who would be willing to do that is the biggest rival they have, Manny has had to stay put for all of those years.

Let's look at the other side of the coin. Kobe Bryant was on a winner. He has a few rings at home, due in large part to his play with Shaquille O'Neal. Then the two can't get along, and Kobe essentially forces a trade of one of them. So the Lakers don't play as well for the next few years, and Bryant is upset they aren't as good.

Well, Kobe, make up your mind -- either win or pick your teammates. You've had it both ways, and you still aren't happy.

Manny's action would make a little more sense if he was consistent. Some days he wants to go, some days he wants to stay. But, as others said, give him credit -- the man hits over the course of the year no matter what happens.

They are both wrong but I have never seen reports that Manny throws his entire team under the bus. Talk bad about management all you want but jerking around the guys you have to play with is not cool. Kobe is a turd, END OF STORY!

player sign contracts and play for the team hte whole contract length, but manny has carried the sox far and so has kobe but kobe is not on a contending team anymore so he wants to be traded so i think they should trade him for someone.
