Within a couple of days of leadership change in the UK, terror has hit twice. I have heard many times that terrorists struck US interests often before the current administration took over. Now, we are told, nobody has dared strike the US since the decisive action of this administration and our heros like Rudy Giuliani. Aren't we just throwing this hard won freedom away by changing our leaders? If you support elections next year, aren't you supporting the terrorists?

A vote is required and you should not fear the changes that might happen. Our government has checks and balances. The fact that everything has come to a screaming ha ult shows how well they work. People are unhappy with our direction. People want change but we will not get out of the war by voting for a liberal guy. We are obligated to pay for our mistakes and England must accept accountability to support the efforts. The world for that matter. We need to get a change to find a person that can negotiate a peace. A president to take action and not just delicate the power. A strong leader. We need to vote for the issues and move on.

No, because that's not what our founding fathers would have intended. They wrote the Constitution--a revolutionary document--to be followed by the citizens of America. They didn't write it to be stomped into the ground. If we give up our elections, we give up what makes us a democracy. Countries like Germany and Italy gave power to Hitler and Mussolini because they thought their safety was at stake, and look at what it cost them.

You're far too afraid of the terrorists, my friend. True they are dangerous fundamentalists, but there's not so many of them that they could take over America. That's why they used terrorist tactics. If they had a large standing army, then they would face us on the battlefield.

We should be trying to eliminate the root causes of terrorism, not giving up our civil liberties. You see, the terrorists really win when they have struck you with fear, and they have done that to you. If we give up what is important to us out of fear, that is when the terrorists win.

Do you understand?

This post is embarrassing, even for this forum. Holding elections as scheduled makes a far more compelling statement than "Let's cancel the election/postpone the election indefinitely on account of terrorist threats". If that's not giving in to the terrorists that you supposedly abhor, what is? Get a clue.

No. Trust our Presidents. No matter WHO gets in there they are going to suddenly hear "the rest of the story". They may sit outside and be as angry and seditious as they want. Once they get into that seat they hear about all the national secrets and what our intelligence agencies CAN'T tell the general public without giving our enemies an advantage.

They will dump their former rhetoric and get the job done. Why do you think President Clinton came under such fire from his party? He did what was necessary when it came to it.

No our system is not like the one in Britain -did you see how fast that was from the time they voted until Brown took over. In our country they have a full 60 days to get ready to take over. Also most of us really cant wait for Bush to retire to Texas.

i don't mean to be rude but are you insane? No way in the world should we forgo elections! America needs to prove that not just the leader is strong but the entire country is! who do you think gives the leader the power!? the people do! and no we are not throwing away anything, we are doing what democracy demands us to do! how in the hell can supporting democracy, which is why we vote by the way, be supporting terrorists? i think you are un-american (if you are American) by even asking this question. what a stupid analogy. give me a break!

Absolutely not! The one sure way to be defeated by terrorists is to change who we are. This country has always stood strong in the face of adversity and this is no time to alter that. As much as people whine on Yahoo about how everyone hates the United States, ask yourself who do they turn to first when trouble strikes? Us. Personally, I'm tired of the whining, I want to clean up our borders, kick *** in Iraq, and become the strong nation that some of our fathers fought and died for in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc. We need to find our spine again.

Elections are one of those freedoms. You make an interesting point but I do not believe that giving up the freedom of elections will help to protect freedom.

The administration in the White House are terrorist, and they are the ones harboring terrorism all over the world. Dick Cheney, Carl Rove, and Donald Rumsfeld had this planed out as soon as they took office in 2000. It will be very unpatriotic to let them continue this injustice.

Maybe we such never have elections again that way we would be really safe. As long as we have no freedom we could be safe right. Why not just lock everyone in their homes and make them work for free that would right make us safe wouldn't it? I mean company profits would be up making us a economic power house and who could hurt us if we are all in concrete cells?
