I had this happen awhile back. I had a virus of some sort, and then I got a cough. I didn't have a regular cough, but coughing fits, on and off, the symptoms of which continued for weeks. Finally, I took vitamin C. (I can't remember how much, but maybe 500-1000 mg., daily) Not long after, the cough subsided. I would certainly be sure that you don't have something more serious, because pneumonia can appear to be the continuation of a virus, even with a very low fever. A check-up with the doctor to rule this out would be wise. If nothing of this nature turns up and the doctor says you are clear to take vitamin C, then maybe it is worth a try. Remember that it can cause a little thinner blood in some people, so if you have a bleeding tendancy, you should be prepared for this as a possibility, and you can tell if you are taking too much if you have loose stools. Read up on this vitamin and see what you think about it. Check with the doctor if you have any questions.

The nagging cough following flu symptoms may be due to allergies. I used to also get a cough for a long time after a flu. And being a singer in a choir, I was challenged because my throat usually started to itch and I would break out in a fit of coughing
The following two products were very helpful to me. Actually I've had the flu only once since I began taking these remedies. But the cough went away right away as the flu symptoms subsided. The products are:
Ultimate Aloe - http://www.marketamerica.com/pulse99/index.cfm?action=shopping.wpGoShopProducts&storeID=8&cat1ID=USA10907&cat2ID=USA20917
Isotonix OPC-3 Antioxidant - http://www.marketamerica.com/pulse99/index.cfm?action=shopping.wpGoShopProducts&storeID=8&cat1ID=USA10902&cat2ID=USA20904
There's more information on the website. (click the blue "i" on the site).

As a receptionist, I find that a good butterscotch candy works best and longer than any cough drops. That said, you need to see a doctor about that cough. That cold or flu could have triggered something far worse than a cold.

Get this checked out immediately! I don't want to frighten you but my mother-in-law just passed away last Feb. at the age of 67 because she had a nagging cough that lingered after catching a cold months before. When she went back to the Dr. they diagnosed her with stage 4 lung cancer. Basically, it was too far advanced to help her. You don't say how old you are but in any event from DR.'S and specialists that we consulted with, the sign of a lingering cough can indicate lung cancer that is at an advanced stage and does not respond to treatment. Remember Peter Jennings from ABC NEWS? He had a lingering cough even though he had quit smoking years earlier. When he went in to get checked out it was too late to do anything for him. I'm telling you this because I have lived it first hand myself. Don't wait any longer. It most likeley is probably from catching your husbands cold but it's best to be safe. Good luck.
