Why is there always such a battle of wills when it comes to mother in laws? And I know it isn't just me who has this problem. Is there like some pshychological stuff going into the eternal battle between mother in laws and daughter in laws?

Yes, of course. She is the last woman who controlled your man, and you have replaced her. So, there is a huge sense of insecurity on her part.

My EX mother- n- law didn't start acting up till her son and I were in the court house working on this divorce, she's 80 years old, he's 56 years old, I'm glad he went back home to his mommy and daddy!!! The ex's in laws will have nothing to do "our daughter" because we are getting a divorce after 30 yrs. she will be 22 in one more week, yes they have done some damage here, damn them!!!

I think there are some over bearing women out there that don't feel any woman is good enough for their son(s), so it's up to the male to set up those boundaries with his mother to diffuse any friction between his wife and his mother.

Yes, I'm sure its a control issue, but along with that is that they get desperate to know (and remind you in the process) of how much thier son still needs them. When she's not driving me crazy, it makes me feel kinda sad for her, especially since I became a mother myself.

I have never had a problem, with my mother in law. She's a very sweet lady, who has never interfered in my relationship and has alway's been very good to me.
