I drive a 97 Acura 2.2 CL and recently when I get into the car it is very tight when I shift gears (Reverse, D4, D3, etc.) What is the problem??!!

I drive a 97 Acura 2.2 CL and recently when I get into the car it is very tight when I shift gears (Reverse, D4, D3, etc.) What is the problem??!! Oh, and this is an AUTOMATIC transmission!

Anyone spilled soda or coffee into the automatic shifter? It could be the surround to the shifter is binding in the console. A good cleaning while working the shifter back and forth may help.

Sir: The first thing I would check is your clutch linkage or hydraulic mechanism to be absolutely sure the clutch is fully dis-engaging when you press it down before and while you shift gears.

Try to clean and lubricate and inspect all shift linkages. It sounds is if the neutral gate is slightly out of adjustment. It may help to drain the transmission oil and replace with a slippery synthetic gear oil. If you do not hear any grinding between gear shifts the synchronizer rings most likely are ok.

The first thing to look at is the shifter cable that could use some lubrication.Wd 40 might work it's way in from one end.
