We had a luau themed wedding shower a couple of weeks ago and the main part was requiring luau/hawaiian/polenisian type attire. We had a basket of leis there for everyone as well. Depending on your budget, there are alot of luau accents you can buy. Palm tree lights, palm tree coolers, tiki cups, cocout or pineapple cups, etc.
We had a little picture area where we used some tiki torches and a backdrop, leis, and sand to make a little island type scene where all guests had their pics done. There was coconut bowling. We couldn't bother trying to roast a pig so we did some kebobs. Chicken, pineapple, cherries... there's plenty of recipes out there for hawaiian style skewers. We rented one of those slushy machines to make frozen margaritas. We also had regular and used beach pail and shovels for the ice. A baby pool full of ice had beer and some regular drinks. Hope that sparks some ideas!

Get some leis, real flower ones or of shell or plastic (preferably real but they might be expensive) for the guests, get some potted palm trees and decorate the venue with them, get some pareaus (sarongs) for guests to wear if they want to, serve some Kahlua Pork and some poi and some rice and some fish, get a tape or CD of some nice Hawaiian music--the Cazimero Brothers or Dennis Pavao or Gabby Pahinui are all great choices, get a Hawaiian shirt or two...have a nice time! Aloha

Oh and if you happen to know anybody who does hula that would be an incredible bonus! Get some coconuts and some pineapples too. Papayas too. aloha

I don't know if they have one where you live, but the local Dollar Trees where I live have had lots of Luau decorations lately.

well, for one, u need hawiian music. Also, make it a costume party with hula girls and hawiian- flowery shirts. U can never go wrong with hawiian pizza, pineapples, and coconuts. Have a hawiian dancing contest that costs like two dollars to enter, and offer cheap prizes for a profit. For little kids, have dance instructions.
