He hasn't peformed like they wanted him to...

they haven't gone anywhere in the standings as they are still trailing by 10+ games (weren't they still trailing by 10+ games when he was not there)

Whether you love, hate or dislike the yankees, honestly do you think they wasted a boatload of money on Roger clemens?

definitely a pitcher in their forties should never get paid that much to begin with and if they do then they should be effective.

Who the heck cares? It's the Yankees' moolah to spend.

No one rational or unfettered by pinstriped glasses welded to the head thought Clemens would solve all of the team's problems. Even he cannot win without a run or two on the board.

Rocket's five games so far:

Yankee runs, Roger's IP, Yankee runs while pitcher of record, Roger's decision, team result

1. 9, 6.0, 6, W, win 9-3
2. 0, 6.1, 0, L, lose 2-0
3. 3, 4.1, 2, L, lose 4-3
4. 2, 1.0, 0, ND, lose 7-2 (relief appearance)
5. 0, 6.0, 0, L, lose 4-0

So;

in one game the Yanks scored a pile of runs, they won, Clemens got the W.

in one game, Clemens got beat up, team lost, he got an L (deservedly).

in two games, the Yankees have scored exactly zero, both in support of Clemens while in the game, and in the entire game. Clemens pitched well enough, these games were winnable, but the Yankees "offense" completely failed.

I don't know what to make of his weirdo relief appearance. I expect he just wanted to face Bonds one more time. He allowed one run but it hardly made any difference (the Giants were already winning 3-1).

Clemens isn't the Rocketman of Cy Young Award-winning form, but I don't think anyone expected him to be that. And his latest game was uninspiring. But he clearly has mileage left in him; he hasn't made the team any worse. The Yankees just do not have that ol' mystique and aura this year. Throwing brickbats at Clemens isn't going to change that.

In order to be worth what they paid him he would have to win 25-35 games. He's not a bad pitcher hes just not as good as he used to be. He's an average pitcher now. Yankee fans(and some non-Yankee fans)needs to realize this. They can't have Roger Clemens as a saviour to the entire team. I saw some predictions this year with the NL Central(I saw this numerous times)where they had the Astros go from 4th to 1st or 5th to 2nd if they got Roger Clemens. That means he would win an extra 40 games for them, he won't even start 40 games. People need to face the fact that he is nothing special anymore just a 45 year old pitcher who is not as good as he once was.

of course they did, this dude "the saint" says the yankees are doing anything to win ball games, a. the seats are filled at yankee stadium already and at a visitors park its only gonna fill with more opposing fans, cause yankee fans in the area will go no matter what. b.A.L. hitting is better does not help your argument , the yankees know this they signed him anyways. c. this isnt about what people expected its about whats happening, clemens is losing games hes 1-3 with a 5 era, how can anybody not think they wasted money....18 mill for 20 or less starts, even yankees fans say it was a waste. bye bye

Yes, they did waste money on Clemens.

I really just don't know why he went to the Yanks to start with, I mean, they were out of the playoff race then and they still are.

He has pitched okay in a few starts, but he hasn't pitched well in others. His return acted as a moral boost for a week or two, but ultimately Clemens won't get the Yanks into the playoffs so it was a total waste of $20 million.

However, if he does go anywhere, I think it would be the Mets....they won't trade him to the Sox because of the rivalry and no one else has the money to pay him.

As a life long Red Sox fan I completely HATE the Yankees. But they got a proven winner that can show some of the current players what team-work really is (hello A-Fraud.)
I think it is money well spent and wish Roger could have waited another month before signing because I think he should end his career in Boston with a winning record. He left because of an idiot GM not because he couldn't pitch anymore.
Just think how big our lead would be right now if we had him instead of the evil empire.

It's too early to determine if it is going to be a waste of money. If they win the World Series, then it's not a waste. Anything less, even a World Series appearance, it'll be a waste of money. The Yankees already had sold out for the season, so it's not like they have sold more tickets to help pay for the contract.

I foresaw this based on the fact that he moved from the NL back to the AL. The AL has better hitting, PERIOD. Was it a waste? NO. The Yankees are trying to do everything they can to win ball games and I respect that. Roger fills seats, home and road. His ERA will be in the low 4 to mid 4 by season's end. If you expected Houston dominance from him you were sadly misinformed. With his last stint with the Yankees he averaged an ERA in the high 3s. If you expected Superman then I am sorry.

Oh yes, and they also raised the salaries for any pitcher that has to be signed for next year....What is Santana worth now on the free agent market, if the Yankees paid Clemens $28M?
