My malawi cichlid had a mouth full of fry or eggs or so I thought as the skin under her mouth bulged and she was'nt eating, I also managed to see what I thought were fry, but I have just looked at her and now she is completely normal, empty mouth. Where have her babies gone? I have looked but cannot see anything?? I was quite excited about her fry and now I feel confused and gutted.

Cichlid babies are excellent hiders and will hide in anything in the tank. In fact you want to make sure you give them lots of nooks and crannies to hide in.

It's also possible that other fish, or even the mom ate the babies.

Keep your eyes on the tank and hopefully you'll find some babies in there.

The fry can be excellent hiders, so look around the tank very carefully for them hiding around rocks or plants. Of course, if they were coming out of her mouth, they could have been eaten by other fish in the tank.

Mouth breeding cichlids are good mothers and if theres a threat she will signal her fry to swim in her mouth until you stop watching her then she will open her mouth to let her fry swim out.

Probably hiding. They will be very hard to spot for a few weeks as they are very small when the are first released from her mouth. If, however, you don't have enough structure in the tank to sufficiently hide them, they may have been eaten by the other fish.
