It will happen when there is campaign finance reform, and campaigns are publically funded. The only way to have free and fair elections is to have everyone on a level playing field when campaigning.

And just whom would they support.
Unions are formed to protect employees from the owner/bosses...What does that say about people that work for government services, then form unions to protect themselves from...The taxpayers that pay their excessive salaries.

That would be impossible because all candidates are backed by some form of lobbyist that someone somewhere would find reprehensible.

Well, now that Bush's SCOTUS has re-opened up the floodgates of corporate campaign money.... not until the court flips back.

Probably never. Our nation is one based on notions of capitalism and free enterprise. We tend to believe corporations provide jobs and Americans need jobs. We tend to distrust government fixing the private sector. We tend to believe we have the best form of government on earth. We tend to react very strongly to people who want to "fix" us. We tend to have more faith in competition than the government.
