Tried to start, it did, but when put in gear it would just die. It done this repeatedly. Can or will it just dry out if left in the sun? Is it ruined? Is there some way I can get it running again? I am female and not really repair savvy. Thank you for any help that you can give.

If it dies when you put it in gear it could be an interlock is not working. Some mowers you have to be sitting on the seat and have the blade turned off before you can put it in reverse, for example.

Is the mower of a type that water can get in the gas tank while it it uncovered? All it takes is a drop or two.

If it runs out of gear, let it run that way for 20 minutes or so, the engine heat will drive off any water in the way.

if it runs out of gear. assuming you could start it and run all day if left so your problem is really the gear issue. Why did he leave it in the rain? first thing to check is did he run over something that is jamming the blade thus he couldnt get it in gear to put it away. Second is to check for a safety kill switch like seat that has been mentioned as well as to check for a parking break that is rusted in place ( solve by putting in neutral and just push it to break wheels free).

It will dry out. It shouldn't be ruines this happens to mowers all the time. Tell him, next time cover with tarp and put bricks or something aroung it so it won't blow away or put in garage or carpost or shed. We are female too.

It should be just fine. open the fuel filter and let it drain, empty the gas tank and put in fresh "premiun " gas. Look under mower and make sure there is nothing wrapped around the blade GOOD LUCK

You may need to dry out the air filter, or you may have some water in the spark plug wire.

These are things you can try and dry out. Unplug the spark plug wire from the spark plug, let it dry out.

Remove your air filter and see if its water logged. If it is let it dry out.

Good Luck.
