It is not illegal to buy or smoke at the age of 14. It is, however, illegal for a shop to sell cigarettes to a person under the age of 16.
All the above comments are therefore incorrect.
As a 14 year old is classified as a minor under Enlish law, you cannot be held responsible for contracts you make. Making a purchase involves making a contract. Therefore, you cannot fall foul of the law in England by buying cigarettes.

It's not illegal to smoke at 14 but it is illegal for a shopkeeper to sell them to anyone under the age of 16. Take a tip from one who knows though and just don't start smoking. Quitting is one of the most difficult things to do, staying off them once you've quit is even harder

In the UK it is an offence to buy cigarettes under 16 it is also an offence for another person to buy cigarettes for a person under 16 so there for it must be illegal as well as impossible for a child of 14 to legally smoke.(to let a child of 4 smoke must be child abuse)

It's probably illegal to be caught smoking at fourteen. Like robbing banks, it's only illegal if you are caught.

Yes it is you must be sixteen to smoke or buy tobacco. I would say the same to my students. LOL I started smoking at twelve and still do.

I live in New Mexico and you have to be at least 18 years old to purchase and to smoke. If you look young enough, they card you when you buy them.
