If talk about the best notebook pc brand, then Dell!
Although IBM/LENOVO are also quite popular.
I heard IBM or LENOVO now is one and the same thing.
It depends on the budget you fixed for this.
If the best one, go for Dell!
If you can get good deals for IBM or LENOVO, also good options!
Wish you good luck.

Pretty much every company who makes laptops makes one that is exactly what you're looking for. Nothing serious on the graphics, but a decent CPU, lot of RAM, and a quick hard drive. I would stay away from major retailers like HP, Sony and Gateway because they're always loaded with crap that makes them seem a lot slower than they really are. I always recommend ASUS and Acer notebooks. I've owned both brands and they are absolutely flawless. Toshiba makes a good notebook too. Just look around for yourself and see what you like. Remember that in general, the higher the price, the better the machine you get.

I think the new Dell e1420 is a knockout. Metal case and all the options at a decent price. Read the review:

The Dell Inspiron 1420 continues to be a bargain hunter's fantasy by giving you discrete graphics, 2GB of RAM, and color splashes for $1,099.

Excellent price. Discrete graphics. New color splashes. Better-than-average battery life. Feature rich laptop. Very good typing experience.

You'll need the E-Value code to take advantage of this deal. Heavier than competing systems.

I find that the Toshiba Satellite series is rugged, reasonably priced ($400 to $2000) and appears to be a good value. I have had one for over a year and it is still going strong so far!

I think Toshiba is the best overall- better quality than HP/Compaq or Acer, better service too- less expensive than Lenovo/IBM.

Sony is way overpriced and only mediocre in my opinion.
