Before going to Harvard for his MBA, Bush Jr. went to Yale for undergrad. At Yale, Bush maintained an average GPA of about a C-/D+. After undergrad, Bush went to Harvard Business School for his MBA. There is a very simple answer to your question, which can be summarized in one word, "Legacy". Private schools make a lot of their money and grow their endowments through donations of Alumni and the wealthy. By allowing Bush Jr to attend, these institutions all but guaranteed these donation from Jr's rich daddy.

Bush actually had close to a D average in high school, but still managed to get into Harvard because daddy Bush was director of the CIA and he was rich. He maintained a C- average at Yale, but I am not sure about Harvard.

OK, fair and balanced here...

I'm an independent liberal who just sassed some CWA-type fool for bringing up Bill Clinton's lies, 'cause I find this personal-attack, non-policy, mud-slinging level of debate to be ignorant and fruitless. So now it's your turn.

1. GWB and father went to YALE. Sr. didn't go to Harvard, W. only for Business School.
2. Who cares?

Universities such as that one will push along family members of alums that are well-placed in private industry or public office. There are A students who can't get in, but it all comes down to cash in the bank and titles before a name.

He got into Yale as a legacy-- his bigshot father and grandfather went there.

He got into Harvard despite his grades since it was the 60's and business school was unpopular and he was a paying customer with money. (University of Texas Law School turned him down as academically deficient.) I don't even think they graded his courses!

If his name were George W. Doakes, he'd be night manager of a Seven-Eleven today.

It was Yale, and he had to buy a new library and three new classroom buildings. Yale tried to negotiate a dorm but daddy wouldn't budge. Yale, being the whore that it is, accepted.

Harvard accepted him because he graduated from Yale, daddy really got his money's worth!
