You do NOT need to find him, regardless of what idiot told you that. Whoever told you that was giving you legal advice, and if they work at city hall, they have broken the law.
Sue for divorce, pay the fee for serving. IF the server cannot find him, the court will declare you have been abandoned and grant the divorce .... with or without your husband's presence. Go for it. And, it falls on the Sheriff's department to do the serving of papers. You are out of the loop here, so stay that way.

Do you have his Social security number? Go to people search dot com.... It's not that expensive, but then again being a student you most likely live on a shoe string budget

Where I live, if you want a divorce and cant find your spouse.. All you have to do is run it in the paper fr 30 days.. If he does not come forward viola... diviorce..

If he is the father of your daughter...you can also go to child support recovery... They can find him if no one else can..

If he has been missing long enough to have set up residence somewhere else, go to zabasearch.com and type in his name and the name of the town you think he is in.. It will give a public listing of his address if he is there and has a residence..

Good luck!

You have some good answers already, if he's working and has a S.S.# he can be traced to where it is that he is working at, I think you really might need to get a lawyer, shop around for one ask questions, look for a free consultation, get at least three different lawyers lined up and explain your problem and what you want to achieve here.

there are ways around this, you need to place an ad in the papers for some period of time. I really think you are going to need the help of an attorney. there are low cost and maybe even free legal clinics to help

You need to find a lawyer to file abandonment charges.
Or go to the district attorney, he is free.
When the judge finds out he can't be found, he can grant you a divorce.
Or the judge will put out a warrant for his arrest, and they will find him.

6 years?...that qualifies as desertion and grounds for divorce - papers served or not. You need to check with a lawyer.
