Is it possible to do this? And can the cleaner stuff be bought somewhere like Wal-Mart?

It's not the disc. The disc was brand-new and we were just sitting in the parking lot. Thanks for the answers.

Yes, you can find a CD lens cleaning kit at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Big Lots etc.

It's basically just a CD with small brushes mounted on the bottom to sweep dust away from the lens. But like the previous poster said, the CD player could be out of alignment due to jolts & bumps. Try the cleaning kit first, if that works it's a cheap fix.

yes you can, it is called cd/dvd cleaner its in the accessories section of the cd/dvd, it looks just like a cd and you insert it into the cd player make sure it is ok for front loaded players(those are players where a tray does not open up)....you have to be careful with the cleaners though or you can damage the eye of the cd player there is a small brush on the bottom of the cd disc brushes up against the eye and if any oil from your fingers gets on it, it will destroy the eye of the player....hope this helps, oh yea also wal-mart, best buy, circuit city...anywhere electronics are sold you can get this

I think your cd's are dirty...clean them first...test them on a stereo in the home before you take them to the car.

Your lens on your CD player is okay in my opinion, I have problems with my xbox and it plays cd's and dvd's okay.
The problem is almost always the cd or dvd or my game disc is dirty or damaged. You can get a cleaner for cleaning discs.

before you go start cleaning it, you might even want to make sure it needs to be cleaned. Does it skip while your car is idle or when it hits a bump. They make cd cleaners but the way car cd players are made, you might have do it the more difficult way.

Dismount the player, crack the case and take a little rubbing alcohol to the lens with a Q-tip. I do it periodically on my DVD player, CD player, etc.

Get a cd that does it. You have dust on the lens that defracts the laser beam.
