I'm actually just playing a role playing game, but I am told this is probably similar to real life. We play as covert opps, and this mission seems very un-realistic. I think I was told that the characters in Splinter Cell have these on them, so what do they mean?

In Covert Ops, no symbol has any meaning. ALL identifying marks are removed when engaged in covert ops. Splinter Cell is a game developed by Tom Clancy. His novels are fairly realistic, but are fiction.

Note Yahoo Answers has a Military category under Politics & Government. They may have a better answer than Personal Finance.

You're probably thinking of private first class.
