Because he is playing to his strength, he is an actor. This man who spent 19 years as a lobbyist, including for Schering-Plough a pharmaceutical company, has to morph himself into someone somewhat believable.
He pretended to be down home when he ran for election to retain the seat he had been appointed to in TN. Prior to his run for the seat, he drove around in D.C. in his fancy cars yet when he ran, his campaign rented a beat up pick up truck so he could " pretend" to be one the people, down to the chewing tabacco on the seat.
He is good at pretending. The country at this juncture does not need someone to "act" at the Presidency but to be the President.

Hey , back off. Fred Thompson and Ron Paul are the two best choices we have for being PRESIDENT. Why do people want to get on here and start running our candidates down.?

Fred is a class C actor, who has nothing great in Hollywood accomplishments. He fails badly, as he attempts to emulate Ron Paul. There is only one real and genuine Ron Paul, and its not you Fred! Fred should try for a role in a Western movie, maybe as a stagecoach driver, as it requires little acting and few words. Whoa!

Fred is pathetic. He is like the other candidates at the Iowa forum this past weekend who try to lay claim to abiding by the Constitution. It's hilarious, yet completely sad, that all the other candidates are such posers. Check Ron Paul's voting record, and then theirs. Ron Paul is the only candidate who seems truly genuine.

Because Fred Thompson has been pro-Bush (i.e. Thompson answered, "I'd be doing pretty much what the President is doing" when asked about how he'd handle Iraq) for so long he needs to distance himself for the White House to lure away voters.
Impersonating Paul is a good choice, as Paul has had problems with Bush since Bush was the governor of Texas.

I thought I was imagining things. Yeah, it sounds like he's trying to tap into the Paul support. Funny!
Truth is, Thompson doesn't even know what a conservative is! Between his lobbying for Haitian murderous dictators and his illegal alien giveaways, and McCain-Feingold support, I'm not sure he even belongs in the Republican Party. Tell him to run as a Democrat.
The true Goldwater conservatives are all coming in line behind Ron Paul.

hmm.... Why would Ron Paul supporters care if he is pretending to be a federalist? Ron Paul isn't, he is a libertarian which is almost anti-federalist.

I think you're inhaling waaaaay too much. I'm sure the last person in the world Thompson would want to emulate is Ron Paul. Fred actually does know what he's talking about, conversely Paul hasn't a clue.

Because he's an actor and he can't run on his record. There's only one real Ron Paul.

I don't watch television so I can't comment on Fred Thompson however, I have heard he's an actor.....Don't actors need script writers to think for them?
Ron Paul speaks from the heart and doesn't need anyone to think for him.
My money is going to support Ron Paul!
