Could you start dialating at 38 weeks for 1 or 2 cm and than give birth at 40 weeks. Or once you start dialating, that means labour is very near?? Thanks

Congratulations! Every women is different in that department. It is not a reliable predictor of when you will deliver.

I started dialating about 2 weeks before my due date, and I gave birth almost 2 weeks after my due date. I think it's common to start dialating anywhere from 2-4 weeks before you actually give birth.

I was dialated to 2, and 100% effaced for 2 weeks before going into labor. My friend was at 3 for 2 weeks.

Well with my first, I didn't dilate until the day I delivered, but then again I had no exercise during my pregnancy that probably could of helped that. My second I was 4 cm dilated at 81/2 months going on 9 and it went so much faster.

Dilation has nothing to do with determining when labor starts. This is my first pregnancy too. At 36 weeks I was dilated at 2cm and now at 39 weeks I am still only dilated at 2cm. The doctor told me that if I do not go into labor by July 12, they will induce me.
