Why do so many other people or Faiths believe that we Catholics worship Mary?? We worship the Holy Trinity which is God the Father, Jesus the son of man and The Holy Spirit. I sure consider myself and I know people from other Catholic Churches consider themselves Christians as well. Catholicism was the first recognized religion and church.
I know the Jews do not consider themselves Christians but that they are still a religion. It is not for us to judge who is what or what not. Just please someone out there get it straight about us Catholics,we do not worship Mary. That is such a misnomer. Do you know that I have had the Jehovah's witnesses come to my door to pass out their little magi zines and try and recruit for their church and when I tell that I am Catholic and I also practice my Native American faith I am told every time that I am going to burn in Hell for my beliefs. So, I come back with "have you heard this one before? Judge not lest ye be Judged? So, I guess I'll be seeing you down there too." That makes them really mad and they storm off. Oh Well.
So, I think it is who you ask and you will get a million different answers. It is up to you which you choose to believe.

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.
http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/chrstuni/documents/rc_pc_chrstuni_doc_31101999_cath-luth-joint-declaration_en.html
There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.
With love in Christ.

Catholics are the original Christians. other denominations of Christianity branched of of Catholicism because they disagreed with one or two of the teachings. They are similar in the sense that they all believe in Jesus but different in the sense of what they teach in their churches

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and the messiah.
All Catholics are Christian, but not all Christians are Catholic.
There are many denominations under the umbrella term of Christian.

Catholics are part of a denomination, like Lutheran, Calvinist, Orthodox, Presbyterian, Church of England...
They are all part of a faith called Christianity and are called Christians.
Just like Sunni and Shiite are part of a faith called Islam and are called Muslims
Note to Rain : Mary is the favourite catholic saint and highly revered but in no way is she worshipped over God and Jesus.
