Awesome. Finally someone has brains. Lil Wayne is very overrated. People who say that haven't looked too far into hip-hop. They don't bother. All they do is let their friends tell them what to listen to. And that damned radio. But relax. Hip-hop isn't dead... just diluted with crappy rappers and people don't show the proper respect to the underground rappers. If hip-hop was dead than why would Nas keep making music? Also, just don't listen to it.
Oh and i'm quoting Immortal Technique.....
"So if your message ain't sh*t, f*ck the records you sold,
Cuz if you go platimum it's got nothing to do with luck,
it just means that a million people are stupid as f*ck"

Okay, so here are your options:
1.You can do the research and explore all the greats of hip-hop and add them to your ipod or whatever you have.
2. You can find people who potentially be the next greats in hop-hop.
3. You can also put out your own material.
See other than that there's not much you can do except not support those who are not at high lyrical and artistic levels to you. Media, will constantly play who the business people says to play, because they can do that.
Also, if you really paid attention to the time-line of hip-hop you can see that those with no skill or very little won't make it very far, meaning you won't have to worry about them spoiling the nature of our culture and music for too long, because they're just fads. T-pain in the ***, is not hip-hop by the way, he does his "version" of r&b, kinda coming off as the next Roger Zapp, if you will.
I'm really please that you are concered about the state of hip-hop, but honestly as you get older you'll probably find yourself detesting a lot of music that will make it's way into stream.
Listen to what you want and build your own collection of who you think is great or pretty good.

There's still some good rappers out today
Pharoah Monch, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Ras Kass, Nas, Canibus, Immortal Technique, pretty much anyone performing at the "Rock the bells" concert in a few weeks. I agree with you, I can't wait til 8 diagrams, that's gonna be hot. Right now im listening to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and I miss the old times. But there still is sum good stuff. Rakim is coming out with a new album soon too.

Can I be a memmber of your club? I don't care for any of those artists you've ranted about. P. Diddy's now defunct project "Da Band" (off the really crappy "Making the Band") is proof that it's all about the "bling", the riches and the ego these days. And these egos NEED to be popped like balloons

thank you!! someone else has a taste!!
i say the same. i think since lil jon and that crunk music came around hip hop has hit the lowest it can go. 'walk it out' and that kinda stuff is pathetic. cant even write decent lyrics. hip hop was good in the times of nas, 2pac, ja rule etc...

I'm with you 100%
Remember when it was a 'crime' to sample other artist's music (bitting MCs), not anymore...
That why we've done a deep drive into garbage now
This sampling/redoing of crunk music is sh!t.
These other people chatting about rock and other types of music of course have no clue

I agree with you, but the truth is......if people keep listening to it and buying it, then that's the kind of rap music they're going to keep making.
I personally miss rap music like what Eric B and Rakim did back in the day. Intellectual stuff that made sense.
