also, are there any other servants in the world that can vote on a $4,400.00 a year raise for themselves while being completely unable to pass any other meaningful legislation? It just seems odd to me that a person or persons can give themselves a raise for not doing their job. This applies to republicans and democrats as they are all guilty.

Not really happy with the congressional pay raises but other public servants include fire persons, police, building inspectors, custom agents, even nurses and doctors at some hospitals. They in many cases receive no way what they should for the work they do and the qualities they bring to the work place.

It is wrong, immoral and unethical for members of Congress to blatantly disregard the will of the people and then give themselves a raise. I think elected officials need to come down from their ivory towers and understand that they're, indeed, 'servants' of the people - not some kind of privileged royalty among themselves. -RKO- 06/30/07

One of the thoughts I have had would mean paying them more (for at least a while) What if we paid the ones who voted for cuts 10% of the decrease in governmental budgets. As bloated as these budgets are, and as much as they fuel inflation, we should have a flood of new politicians with innovative ideas for decreasing government. We might have to set a limit of 50% of current spending or something like that.
