How come people who make such little income that not only do they not pay ANY federal taxes but get more money back through the Earned Income Tax credit are allowed to vote for social welfare programs that give them money. It's ridiculous that they can just vote to make everyone else who works hard give them money for doing nothing. This is the clearest example of of tyranny by the masses I have ever seen.

Ian tyranny of the masses is absolutely tyranny. I have blue eyes, only like 10 percent of the us has blue eyes. So everyone with brown eyes could vote in a democracy to make everyone with blue eyes give them 10,000. According to your logic that would'nt be tyranny because the masses are in charge. This is how things like slavery start, just because a lot of people want something doesn't make it just.

AC1dB - This is a problem of the government not paying its soldiers enough, not welfare. Normally I'd say children are a CHOICE that you should only MAKE if you can AFFORD a child. If you can't AFFORD a child, you should NOT have one. However, I do believe if you are a soldier you should be making enough to have a child, so the problem is higher wages for soldiers, not increased social welfare

If you are not earning minimum wage working 40 hours a week I have no sympathy for you and you should not be having kids and I shouldn't have to pay for YOUR kids!

You are correct. Now, can we get a few other people to realize the same? Oh well, I'll keep payng my taxes ..... we've got welfare rolls to bankroll.

Just one flaw in your logic...
the life-time limits set on welfare.
There are very few people out there that love sitting around on welfare.
There will always be a small amount of people who will always take advantage and exploit any system, no matter what kind of system it is, and no matter how wealthy they are.
Many people that take advantage of our welfare system are people who work and want the free higher income, or drug dealers who are criminals anyway, and would have more incentive to work if drugs weren't worth so much.
But don't you worry, as soon as they get rid of child labor laws, public education, and student financial aid for higher education, your "tyranny" will be gone, and we'll be back to what you would consider a better time, when children were being used as slave labor in sweatshops during the earlier 1900's.

When the masses are in control it's never tyranny. The unemployed are a minority and seldom vote, so it's absurd to suggest that their votes are determining public policy.
In actual fact, the wealthier majority have the votes and far too many of them are voting to screw the poor.
There definitely is tyranny, but it's the tyranny of big business and the bourgeoisie.

People always seem to assume that poor people are the biggest welfare recipients and abusers. They're not.

Only for those who take advantage of the system and feed off of the public trough when they need not be. We do need a system that helps people and there will always be a certain percentage that are incapable of helping themselves. That not withstanding, those who stay on it for generation after generation, and demand even more, are the louses that we need to rid ourselves of.
We need some major scrutinizing and reforms.

It's funny how the majority doesn't matter when you aren't part of it.
Actually, it's kind of sad.
