we were always told, we needed extra man force, as so many never came home from the war, and it was cheep labour, it was a means to a end,and we all have a lot to thank them for, the N H S, would be a poorer place without them , as they would turn their hands to any thing, and other industries found them willing workers,so before you find fault with the reasons behind it, think how much poorer wed b without them

People/soldiers who had fought with the allies from the Commonwealth countries (the former British Empire) were given the right to settle here (The Settlement Act or something like that?) after the war. I remember my dad telling me that as a working man in London in the 1960's you could leave a job one day and get another the next day. There were also labour shortages after the War and the (mainly) West Indian/Asian immigrants who came to the cities (mainly) would do lowly paid jobs that we Brits would not do to escape from poverty in their own land. I went to school (in London) with the immigrants kids in the late 1960's/1970's. Most were good people and very hard working.

Because some of those immigrants after 2 WW can't live in their own countries. My grandfather is an example of that situation. During the war he was fighting here with the Polish troops and after the war he tried to come back to Poland. Could you imagine situation soldier from democratic country is coming back to communistic Poland? The other reason is the fact England lost lots of people during the war.

um i think it was because Britains colonies fought in the war even though they didn't want to.
before the war started, Britains empire was trying to break away and refused to fight another war for Britain.
Because the colonies choseto fight for them, Britain felt a responsibility to grant them independance and allow them to emigrate (i think!)
