You have to realize you can't fix everyone's problems. It is impossible. You need to take care of yourself first. If you aren't happy how can you expect to even attempt to help anyone else? Focusing on everyone else will only make you crazy. Let them figure things out for themselves.

CM,
sometimes it is better to just "listen" and provide suggestions instead of trying to give solutions. Not knowing what the particulars are to your situation suggestions can even be viewed as potential solutions by those you are in conversation with. Stating "...may I suggest..." can do wonders in these types of situations - but this is also dependent upon potential "hot heads" and "strong willed" people that often feel the need to gripe, but don't really want to hear anything on a positive note to begin with. Maybe just letting them speak and you later finding solace in some type of activity like reading, writing, or speaking to friends about matters outside of family topics would be a good release for you.

You sound like you are trying hard to do some good in a "no win" type of situation. Hope some of this helps and best to you!

Why don't you give us a bit more information so we can help you properly. From the books I have read and applied to my own life and my own daughter, listening and acknowledging feelings is the the paramount thing to get ahead with any relationship especially if you have a difficult child. You should read "How to Talk so Kids will listen and listen so kids will talk" by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish it will change your life like magic, good luck!

Sometimes you just have to back off and let everybody worry about you for a change.
