Sounds like a vicious rumor to me.

Unfortunately, it's a rumor that might be based on fact! An article (see below link) says that there IS speculation that Honda will buy Harley-Davidson.

But even the analysts say it would probably alienate the buyers, not to mention the FTC.

Not a good idea, Honda...

It was just a rumor. Honda came out the other day and said they aren't buying Harley.

Honda is buying Harley Davidson STOCK on wall street if they were able to buy enough say 60% of whats available they would be the majority shareholder but the federal trade commission would have to approve any attempted takeover meanwhile their buying continues to drive the price of each share higher I wish I had bought it 10 years ago at$35 because I could sell now at $70 before the attempt fails & the price drops to$45 or $50

It's not a rumor, but it isn't going to happen. Honda was checking the ice on this one. Some think that it was fabricated by Harley to up the prices of their stock, which it did.

Do you realize what would happen if Harley were to come under foreign ownership? Harley riders all over the US would dump the bikes, prices and sales would plummet and the company would be in bankruptcy in less than a year.
There's no way Harley's shareholders would vote to approve a sale, even if a foreign owner waved a pile of cash.
That's a rumor that's laughable if you spend 5 seconds thinking about it.

I heard that rumor a while back. A friend of mine that works for Harley said the rumor has been going around for quite some time and there appears to be no truth to it.

It was just a rumor.
CNBC confirmed it was a rumor.
I'm a 100% Honda fan.
I don't think Harley would ever allow a foreign company to aquire them.
Harley would lose over 60% of it's marketing, due to the "American" motorcycle, cult follwing.
And I don't think Honda would aquire a company that would show more than a 50% loss.
Like Rocky Balboa would say, "It's your simple mathmatics."

This is the first I've heard that. Seems doubtful. I'd love to see it. In fact Honda Motorcycles have been rumored to be up for sale for years as American Honda has attempted to distance themselves from motorcycles to expand their automotive enterprises.

Its rumor.
However, that rumor caused an increase in the value of HD stock.
