It has the copper and silver look, but all the ridges and raised images appear to have been smoothed away. I got it with my change at a grocery store this morning, but didn't notice the difference untill I started to count my change. What should i do with it? Thank You.

Can you read the date, or anything else on it? Since you can see a copper color in it, then it is probably not old enough to be a silver quarter. If you can make out the date, and it is 1964 or earlier, then you have a silver quarter.

Someone after the coin left the mint buffed it down or ground down the image or both. It is a damaged coin and may not even be usable in a vending machine. It's weight has been changed. It is not an error coin. I would spend it. seems people get bored and do the darnedest things to pocket change. At least you have a conversation piece.

You should give the quarter to a homeless person...

...defective change for defective people

Hey, it's alright I used to be homeless ...so it's the truth
