I think the Aussies will have him on toast.
When Peter Ryan was reported as coming to Australia to sort out corruption in the NSW police force we said "Oh my God, they'll crucify him", which was more or less what happened.
Aussies don't like the English (the old inferiority complex again!) and will do anything to make life difficult for them. Our anti-racism laws don't seem to apply to the Poms. So I think Prince William is in for a nasty surprise if he thinks he'll be welcomed with open arms for more than a week. The media will be gunning for him right away, I believe.

There was a proposal to make Prince Charles G-G of Australia (since he spent 6 months at school there) but after John Kerr sacked Gough Whitlam the office was seen as more controversial than before and putting a royal into it was less desirable. Our home-grown governors general in Canada have gotten so mediocre I'd be delighted to see a royal appointed again, but suspect in most dominions the whole notion of bringing back British governors general would be resented.

It will never happen in my lifetime... GG of Australia will always be an Aussie. Maybe next time a woman maybe..... I hope Australia gets rid of the position of GG anyway. I'm for a republic or something other than what we have now. A queen of another country is our Queen and I don't like it.

Prince William is dreaming only. We like him as a person but not for GG........ No way .....

I think the Governor-General of Australia is usually an Australian not a Brit.

It probably would be a bad idea, but where is all of this talk coming from? One book written by an outsider does not usually contain the full truth. I've heard no sources for this other than one dubious one.

To my knowledge he just said he wanted to be Governor General but nothing is official. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad idea because I'm not sure if that would mean he'd have to give up his title and chance to succeed or if he could sort of do it as a side job.

However, if someday he chooses to do this and loses his title and priveledge than we should respect his wishes and cheer him on as governor general of Australia.

I don't think Prince William would like it very much. It's a lot more work than being a student.
