they where criticized by many people, me being one of them lol, i believe its the biggest honour in the world for a player to represent his country. Ronaldinho and Kaka are not injured, and many other players played as much as Kaka and Ronaldinho have and even more in the last year, and yet they are still playing in the Copa America, so fatigue is not an excuse....imagine how many home fans they have let down by taking those decisions......i lost some of my respect for Ronaldinho, Kaka and especially Totti who made it public that his club comes first.... he is disrespecting his country by saying that...when he plays for Roma, he plays for the Roma fans, but when he plays for the national team he plays for Italy and the Italian people, which is more important? to win the heart of his club's fans?! or to win the heart of the nation!? as i said, i lost some of my respect for each of those three players becuz of this......

Totti is contemplating returning to the national team on a part-time basis. I guess people want him to be either in or out with the national time. Not play when it best suits them
I think it's different for the other two.Ronaldinho and Kaka didn't participate in Copa America because they needed a break. They have been playing continuously for the last couple of years and are exhausted as they have long and enduring seasons
If a player doesn't want to play for their own country it's their own business. Look at Zidane and Nedved they retired for a short time so they could focus on their club duties but returned for World Cup 2006.

Let me set it simple. Totti put his career in Roma before playing for the Italian National Team. Kaka and Ronaldinho decided they just needed a break, never saying they wouldn't be back. Totti is kinda in between. We don't really know if he will play for Italy again.

well, totti is not there for the qualifying matches. he'll most likely be there when the event actually takes place. its sorta like, letting the others do the dirty work and showing up to take the medal.
Ronni and Kaka were criticize but, in there case, they have a point, they've been playing a lot. and its a chance to let others in Brazil to step up. they are talent saturated in Brazil. they'll be fine.
if you look at Ronni's performance this year, it hasnt been up to par. he needs that rest, he's been a 7 out of 10 as of late.

WHAT THE SECOND ANSWERER SAID
TOTTI WILL BE THERE FOR THE TOURNAMENT
BUT NOT FOR THE QUALIFYING MATCHES
HE LETS ALL THE OTHERS DO THE LEG WORK
AND KAKA AND RONALDINHO WERE AND ARE CRITICIZED
