I want to make a Banner spelling out the words Happy Birthday and so on

It depends on what word processing software you are using and what maximum vont size you can get with that software. To save ink, why not use an "outline" font if you have one available, and colour in the letters by hand. Just a thought!

You could do that using the drawing facility that comes with Open Office. Open Office is free to download from Open Office .org. I wouldn't print my own banner because the ink for my printer is so expensive, & it would probably drain the ink cartridge to do 13 x A4 size letters.
