I live in Thailand and own an HP laptop I bought in the US. Your warranty and help and support are worldwide. Just be sure register you computer, and you should be fine. I had a problem, which was caused by my ISP, but I need to bring it in. They have a beautiful facility here, with great service, they tried to fix it while I waited, but were unable to and asked to leave it for repair, it was ready 3 hours later. Needless to say, that's very good service, half way around the world. You might want to check online if there is a service center near you, but they also e-mail and phone support in your local region. HP's wordwide support is fantastic, and my next computer will also be an HP because of their support, great service. Heres alist of service centers in India: http://h50021.www5.hp.com/contacthp/in/servicecenters/
You defintely will not need to send it to Costco for service.

Call HP and ask them for advice before you buy. Warranty and Power issues will be a problem.

You'll be glad you did!!!

I would make sure about servicing back home.
Buy a model that you know you can get serviced locally back home.
