Reinstall all the applications from the original CD that it came on, then do any updates if applicable. You can't move an application between machines.

If you have a USB port on the old PC, get a thumb drive (aka USB memory stick) at staples/walmart etc.. and copy your user files from the PC to the thumb drive, then back onto the laptop from the thumb drive.

Assuming your PC was running XP, your data files will be in my documents, my pictures and my music.

I think you can't. Even if you copy the programs files folder in a CD and then paste them in the laptop the applications won't work. Anyway you can copy the files from your PC to the laptop (photos, videos, song, etc,)

Programs can't be moved from one computer to another, but all of you files can.
