No because if you do some country will claim it and they have more guns than you do.

Yes, that would be an exercise in the principle of Terra Nullis; however, the last I knew, all of the world's landmass was claimed by one state or another, except Antarctica, which is considered international territory and incapable of being claimed by anyone state. NOTE: That has not prevented some states from lodging claims.

Well to be honest with you I doubt that you will find any island that is unclaimed. If you so happen to go out wandering in the sea looking for unclaimed islands and you have a huge titanic like boat and you need a 1st mate I'd go. Haha it'd be fun aslong as the wifey could go too. Good luck!

I can't think of even one that somebody hasn't already expressed an interest in.

Then there's the whole matter of defending it against hostile intruders.
