It means a small dinner, or something not too filling.
It is the opposite of a "heavy dinner" which means very filling.

There are degrees, shades and contextual meanings with most English words.
Look up the word "light" on-line or in a dictionary and you will see it used as a noun and an adjective along with various contextual meanings.
A good dictionary and the willingness to use it is invaluable.
