I am one of these guys that grew up in the time when HD was known for having problems oil leaks, overheating rattleing parts loose and throwing motorcycles togther to fast quality issues the whole AMF thing, what make a person work monday though satuday on his hog to ride only a couple of hours sunday ? and take a chance to have to push it again home ?the answer to this question that only a person that has a burn in their soul to ride a Harley Davidson there is no ride that is the same , if HD is the whole image of motorcycles, you say a jap bike is better for what ? for the pocket book ? every jap cruiser you ride how does it feel to have someone ignorant of motorcycles ask ( Is that a Harley?) its true a four cylinder jap bike will out run a Harley so what! the HOG still get there and gets more looks . when is the last time you have seen a HD twin cam broke down? not very often ,quality of a jap bike is not a issue HD has some of their parts as well which make it a great product !!

How do I feel about that?
Glad you got that off your chest, I guess.
I grew up then too.
I wanted one, even with all the problems.
I was broke, I rode old Hondas. They were good.
I got a new one, finally. It's VIN starts with 1HD...
It has no problems.
Niether do I, that's how I feel.

Dang Nighttrain someone pis*sed in your corn Flakes the smorning Micky Ds out of Egg Mcmuffins today are What ? Look I used to have the same attitude as you it was either a Harley are nothing else .No jap Bike was allowed in my driveway but thank the Lord those ignorant days are over .I admit there is no comparison to the sound of a fine tuned Hog roaring down the street and no matter what us metric cruisers do to our bikes we cant get them to sound like that ,but we still love are Bikes and add are take away things we dont like about them but we make them are own and ride as often as we can ,yes a Jap bike is better on the pocket book ,If I had a dollar for everytime some Dork wearing a Harley T_shirt ask me if my bike is a Harley I would be a rich man , Me thinks you need a full tank of Gas and Good riding company with a few Metric Owners /peace

Cruisers are not for performance oriented riders anyway. You want a good commuter? Try a naked bike. Want to go touring and still feel your fingers and colon afterward? A nice BMW sport-tourer is still cheaper than a Harley and has a better warranty service. Want to actually go FAST in the corners? Sportbike all the way. Like to take the road less traveled? Get a small trailie and add bags.
But if your idea of being cool is spending way too much on a has-been "icon" that is the yuppie equivalent of a loud barcolounger, then Harleys are for you!

Everyone has their own preference on which bike is best, for me it's Harley Davidson. It wasn't until I rode one that I gave up Jap bikes and now will only ride Harleys. Lots of the riders that put Harleys down have never ridden one, so their opinion of Harley's really doesn't count for anything. If you like Jap bikes, ride one. If you like Harleys, ride one. No reason to put down someone's bike, just ride and enjoy life. Of course you'd enjoy it more on a Harley.

I really dont know what your question is but to each his own.I rode a 1983 suzuki GS 650 L in mint condition and it runs like a top. I like older bikes that I can work on.If you have the money and can afford a harley and the $100 an hour shop fee go for it.My bike gets 58mpg. and I only paid 400 bucks for it and have another 600 into it.My insurance is only 80 a year! Bet that on a Harley.I get compliments from harley riders all the time about my bike.It doesnt sound like you own a bike yet.

Jolly good for you!
Everyone loves a sweeping generalisation don't they?
"If HD is the whole image of motorcycles" - I hope your vision isn't as narrow as your opinions.
"the hog gets more looks" - I'm guessing you value others opinion a LOT - we say "I ride for the smile on my face - not the stickers on my bike"

Now that you've had the chance to state your opinion instead of ask a question do you feel better? Personally you sound like a guy that would rather push his H-D than ride metric and that's okay by me. Since it's a Harley you may get to do just that. I'd rather ride metric myself. Just don't want to pay Willy G lots of money simply because his name is on my bike. But to each their own. Nothing wrong with you preferring a Harley to metrics as long as you understand that it's not what you ride but that you ride. But if you think I'm not worthy because I prefer a Japanese bike to the H-D...then we got a problem.

Good for you. 99% of the people on these sites don't give a rat's a*s what you think. Just don't fall off your soapbox, you may sprain your tender ankle.
