i've been told that using up your battery fully before recharging it is best for the battery life but does anyone know if using it while its charging is also bad for it?

No, the battery always charges and discharges. If you are leaving it plugged in for a long time you would be better off taking the battery out.

I have been using my same dell laptop for three years while charging and have no problems at all, be sure not to let your batt charge too long over night that can be bad on the batt life.

Anytime your laptop is plugged in, the battery is charging. So if it was bad to use the laptop while it is charging, you would never be able to use the laptop while plugged in.

You can use the laptop while it is charging.
