A few of my work colleagues were having a glass of red wine after work. I said the wine was too warm. And one of the older co-worker's (Hes about 50) said ''You're a peasant''.
Why did he say that to me? He asked me how I found the wine and I just said it was too warm.
I really sensed the hatred in his voice.

He said that red wine has to be served at room temperature (which I did already know) but so what if I don't like it warm.

That particular wine is probably intended to be served at room temperature, not chilled. If homeboy is 50 and trying to impress colleagues by putting you down, he's nothing more than an angry and oppressive dick. Don't let him get you down. People like that, you can never be smart enough for them or clever enough, anything and everything you say will be ridiculed. It's hard to offer any advice because wherever you go in this great big world there are always going to be jerks like him around. I guess you can just realize this and accept this and move on. Don't let the jerks in the world change who and what you are.

Because he thinks he is better than everyone else.
It probably stems from Red wine being served at room temp and the fact you said that it was too warm, which is a highly plausible comment to make. Red wine, when too warm is vile!
Ignore this evil git, enjoy the rest of your weekend and forget about him. He thinks he is a Mr Know-it-all but as we all know, people like him are just a bunch of *****.

Sounds like hes the peasant and not you, red wine should be served at room temperature and never warm, he probably thinks hes a wine expert, think he needs to read up on his wine temperatures before he condemns anyone,

He's a wine snob. Some people feel that they can look down on someone because they know a lot about wine. Most wines are served at room temperature. Just ignore him. You're not a peasant and people are probably making fun of him behind his back because he's full of himself over a glass of wine!

He was trying to show off and gain a laugh from others there, using you as the butt of his (not so funny joke)...
He was assuming because you know nothing about wine then your amongst the lower classes of people.
What a d i c k... he obviously didn't like you and felt you shouldn't be there..probably because your youn and he's not.
You should have replyed in an overly pronounced and snobbish voice, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh i doooo apologise for my peasantile ways, i must remember my position of standing here and only speak when spoken too

Tell him to get his head out of his ***. The time red was served at room temperature was a time when we did not have central heating. Room temperature now is way too warm.
Open it and let it breathe in a cool, not cold place for about half an hour and it will be fine.

he sounds like a facetious git to me.
Sure there are 'guidelines' & recomendations about these things but just because things are 'done' a certain way, it doesn't mean you have to like it. We all have our own taste. I enjoy wine & I sometimes find it over the top the way some people carry on about it...if it pleases my palate, it's good enough for me. AND, I'd rather have cheap (warm) wine with interesting company than drink an expensive one with a bunch of pompous gits.
So there.
:-)

I don't know if he knew what peasant means. Warm wine is a tradition, forget him. If you meet him again and he acts the same tell him your feeling toward him then let it go.Love and confrontation is very good.

Its a bit like drinking flat lager.
A good bottle of red wine is wasted on someone who likes it chilled.
I suspect you would be as happy with a cheap bottle of wine as an expensive one. He was probably pissed of because they had bought an expensive bottle of wine and thought that they had wasted some of it on you.
I dont mean to sound rude, just that I think this is how it is.

The nerve of that guy! I really don't know, but if he brought the wine, maybe you breached some connoisseur etiquette. Still, that doesn't explain why he called you a peasant. Hmmm...
I hope you find a satisfactory answer. ;)
