I tryed using a compact wireless-g usb adapter, but it is not compatible with just an 802.11 port. They say it should work with 802.11b and 802.11g.I have a Linksys g router installed on my other computer. I think the usb port is not strong enough to connect to the internet.

You might try moving closer to the router. USB adapters are usually good to 100 feet or so as long as nothing is blocking the signal from the router.

You should be able to view wireless networks and see it your system shows up in the available list. Does anything show in that? If not your drivers are not installed correctly.

I think you're confused, or at least I am. 802.11 is the spec for wireless. It has nothing to do with usb ports unless you have an adapter that plugs in via usb.

If you have a wireless g adapter connected via usb, then you should be able to connect to your wireless g router.

What error messages are you getting?

go to my network places check your protocols (client for microsoft networks,TCP/IP and file sharing). Type ipconfig to get your IP adderss then type ping then the ip address to see if the nic sees the router. The 802.11 is not a usb port the connection is made with a RJ45 connector to the nic to the router except for adsl which uses a RJ11 connector and a RJ45 connector..
