It refers to creams or lotions that are applied to the skin and remove unwanted hair level with the dermis. I've never been able to get a depilatory to work on myself. The hair remains and my skin is irritated. If you use a depilatory, make sure you only apply it to a small area first to make sure you don't give yourself a painful rash
