Yes I live in Leeds, it's my boyfriend's car, I've asked loads of people if it's electrical or mechanical, but noone knows

Electrical, driven from the ABS system. Any diagnostic technician with the correct equipment will be able to fix it.

Depends on what is wrong a mechanic can replace the snap in circuit board. Spedo some times comes as a complete unit (tach. spedo temp and fuel ) warining lights and instrument illumination bullbs have to be carefully inspected and transfered. I try to do that in a dark place turn the headlamps on and make sure all the bulbs are working before bolting the dash trim back in.

Electrical,uses vehicle speed sensor to sense electrical pulse to the speedometer.Auto technician fixes it.HTH

It might just be the speedo cable that has come loose. I could easy fix it for you for free. Do you live anywhere near Leeds.
