There isn't any set time limit. I wouldn't have wanted a child in the first year of marriage. There are just too many changes going on. I had my daughter after being married for three years.

Wait as long as you can. Me and my husband waited 7 years and we were able to get a house, travel, do whatever we wanted whenever we wanted. After you start to have kids, all of that pretty much comes to a screeching halt. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids and wouldn't trade them for anything, but vacations are fewer because of less money and things are a little tighter. Get to know each other and have fun together first, and that will make you a stronger couple to do what is the hardest job in the world......parents!!

I have always thought that married couples should wait at least three years before trying to have children. I know that some people think it is ok to dive right into it, though.

I just think that two people who chose to spend their lives together, and said vows dedicating their lives as such, should spend time being together before they add anything else into the mix.

Besides, after three years you're usually better set financially, have better jobs, have a schedule worked out that you both agree with, have friends and support systems established, and have a better understanding of not only who your spouse is, but also who you are.

Good luck.

That depends how long you've been living together. I think a year of living together is the equivelent of 3 years if you aren't. Wait at least a year before you conceive, if not two. You have so much to learn about each other. You might find out they have ideas about childraising that you couldn't live with. You want to make sure all those kinds of issues are sorted to your mutual happiness before you start making babies!
