Character is what kind of person you are - how people characterize you. Reputation is what kind of past you have... how you have acted/behaved/represented yourself. Similar, are the two, but not the same.

Character is a set of tools I use to solve roadblocks in my journey in life. My personality decides which of those tools I will use for any given roadblock. Thus, my personality is an extension of my character.

My reputation is solely located in the external world. True or falsely construed, there is nothing you can do to cleanse or construct it. It is located in other minds.

All you can do is to remain true to yourself, do not lie, lest you cheat yourself of your most faithful friend, yourself.
