You laugh less because as you grow old you become cynical since you have reached an age where you have been there done that all, seen that all, what you have in your kitty is experience of life a good dose of good and bad, the right and the wrong. But you know old has nothing to do with you laughing less, there is always a kid inside the old and you can can laugh more and also have a reason to do so. What old people should do is they should take up whatever they could do as youngsters things which will give pleasure and there is absolutely no need to feel that what will people say, really they will always keep yapping if you are not the reason then someone else will become so for their wagging tongues. Do whatever makes you happy because this is the last stage of life why not die happily with the sense that you did what you dreamed of or of what gives you pleasure this will automatically make or give you a reason to smile. cheers

Our understanding of life gets deeper as we grow older.

We begin to see other views and truths behind the things we used to laugh at as a kid. So as we grow old, as we learn new things, the restraint to laugh at things grows as well. Because we are becoming more sensitive to other people's issues.

And also, our logic gets better. So we may find Tom chasing Jerry funny when we were kids, but it will become a "so what?" thing eventually.

We also hear jokes repeated on and on as we go along with life. These jokes get worn out eventually. The world will be out of jokes, soon.

But we can choose to change and laugh more though. Bring out that senseless side of us, just for the sake of flashing that set of bright teeth and feeling that tickle and our hearts. When we laugh. It's never too late.

By the way, I'm just 14. :p

Understanding a humor and enjoying it by laughing is an art which should be developed in a child with encouragement. I had seen many people sitting silent before TV when movies of Charley Chaplin and Laural & Hardy were being played when others were bursting into laugh. I think not all laugh less when they are old.

People laugh less because of their growing old, because of various worries viz. thinking their responsibilities to their family - daughters and sons, Sickness and other ailments due to which they undergo expenses for medicines and treatments, metal agony, etc. The elderly people get neglected y their children and so they worry about future.

All these causes sadness and they mostly forget to enjoy their remaining part of life and laugh and smile slowly goes away from their face.

Few people may be exceptions and they carry on well.. -

Hi, As we grow older there's a lot more pain and things that go wrong with our bodies. I try to keep fit and i love to laugh and i wish i could laugh all the time. It makes you feel a lot better and laughing keeps you younger.

Speak for yourself . As I get older , more and more human silliness is revealed as just that.See it the first time, it's a crisis of monumental proportion. See it a few more times , it's entertainment. ( For example , every election, some super-serious types announce that THIS is THE most important election in ( fill in time period here /"ever") . Yeah, until next time . ;D

Also know more , & have more experiences to laugh about .
I do see the response indicated by your question . A lot of times I find myself thinking , in response to some sour grump's pronouncements : " Translation: I'm not as young as I used to be , and THAT sucks!!, ..So EVERYTHING sucks!" ;D

I think I probably laugh more now, than I did when I was younger. I don't have as much to worry about & stress over as I did years back. They say laughter is the best medicine & its no joke!! In fact you've just reminded me, I was going to make a point of watching funny dvds, so I can spend more time rolling around in fits of laughter.
Tee hee.

Too bad, Too bad... we should laugh as much or even more!

Life tends to win us, that's how we often think. The difficulties and responsibilities make us metallic and we would have to learn to control our emotions and react less to things in life, but hey, we just haven't learned NOT to fight with life, no one wrote any laws on how an adult should behave and how a child should behave.

Lot of people moan they would love to be like teenagers again, with wild thoughts and decisions, laughing at every small thing... But again, WHAT KEEPS THEM FROM DOING THAT??

There should be a golden middle to everything. You can be metallic with certain things, but with other things, like the things in daily life, JUST LAUGH OUT LOUD ! ! ! ! ! .............

We laugh less because our mind is occupied with one problem or the other and tries to find solution for it....We come to know more abt people, each one's behaviour, and the way we should respond make us matured and reduces the frequency we laugh...
