My application for flexible working was turned down yesterday on the grounds there was no business case. I applied because I have a 1month old son and I wanted to do 0730-1600 to miss the rush hour and spend more time with him. Anyway my manager forgot to take the application to the meeting where these things are usually discussed so I asked HR what was going to happen and later that day I was told it was turned down. If it did not go through the same process most other applications go through do I have a case to appeal against this?

i'd say it depends what job you do? many jobs require key working times - teaching, care, retail etc. if your working hours have no derogatory effects on the business or other workers, and you just have to get your bit done by the end of the week, then you have a very good case!
