Is there a way to configure a laptop running Windows XP in such a way that I have a output being displayed through the VGA output that's different than what is displayed on the laptop screen, yet still be able to manipulate the VGA screen? The upshot is this: I want to display information to a group, but keep some of that information displayd only to me. Is that possible?

Unfortunately, I don't believe so.

The problem is that when you output a video signal from your laptop, the audience will see everything that you are doing on the desktop because it is a simple clone.

If I knew some more specifics, I might be able to offer a better solution. Contact me if you'd like to delve into this deeper.

Maybe, if the software with the driver installed cannot tell that it's a dual monitor setup then the laptop is hardwired with a splitter output and cannot do what you want.
