In Vietnam, we have many cellphone network providers which are for simcard celphones. Some of the phones from US are still working well, but some dont work at all. So, I wondering if iphone could be working in Vietnam. Is it simply like just put in a new simcard, and enjoy having fun ?

Well in order for any cell phone network (GSM) to work in any country two things are required. The phone must be "unlocked GSM phone" and the phone must operate on the same bandwidth frequency. Sometimes you see cell phones that work on tri-band or quad band meaning they work on many frequencies.

At the moment, iphone is currently a locked phone specifically to Cingular (A T&T) Wireless. That means the programming of the phone cannot be used with any other cell phone provider. Give this phone about six months to a year and sooner or later, you will see the iphone as a "unlocked GSM phone." By then you can purchase the iphone and you will be able to use that iphone in Vietnam and purchase the sim card in that country.
