Yes, you are right. The best & most economical marriage is one which you go through before a government marriage officer/registrar appointed under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 in India. In such marriages no botheration of religion or caste or race. Only three witnesses required. You get a proper marriage certificate which has universal recognition i.e. you can use it for any purpose in India or even outside India. In simple words it is best form of legal marriage one can go through in India. One should go through this form of marriage in the morning time & enjoy a small lunch gathering followed by badai or dolli of the bride. Total cost in few thousands Rupees including lunch gathering. Whereas in the traditional Indian marriage the bills crosses millions of Rupees. My vote goes for this form of marriage. What about you all?

Of course ostentation should be strictly discouraged in marriages. The money spent on extravagance in marraiges can be fruitfully utilised for the welfare and upliftment of the poor and needy. Donations to charitable institutions apart from qualifying for tax exemptions also earn the blessings of the beneficiaries.
But then who cares? Most people consider weddings as a once in a life time event and hence an excuse to splurge. The wealthy of course can't resist the temptation to utilise such occassions to show off their immense wealth and powerful connections. These weddings become the talk of the town and headlines on media.
Whatever it is, weddings of the type of Abhi-Ash, Arun-Liz do look ugly in poverty stricken India.

If Allah has given you good wealth and health you should spend. Spend intellegently. Do not forget the poor.
Spending on marriage means not lavish Dinners and dance extra but giving and sharing your wealth in good form

Such as buy gifts for the bride and groom for which they can use long time, call those people in marriage who have never socialised or seldom socialise. Keep a feast for those who have never had good food or seldom have.

Spend! but honestly and intellegently.

By spending on marriage in good manner all those person involved get jobs, money etc its like a cycle. Like if a bride is being makeuped she puts mehendi to the bride in return she earns something. This way you are helping many such people who are involve in marriage. SOOOOOOO

Do spend on marriage, but not in a wrong way.

I think a little extravangance is ok once in a while, but not always, because people get used to the way they're living, and situations in life can change, and sometimes there isn't enough money to make everything flow and something has to be sacrificed. It's just easier if u just start out small and stay the course.

Of course, I agree with you 101%. Those who have enough effortless money, let them do whatever they want. But those who are just struggling to meet both ends and means, should not imitate those who are in the intoxication of their unwarrented wealth. That will make them more poor and destitute. As Sree Narayana Guru said more than 10 people is crowd for a marriage.

You're just as married no matter what you do, so I don't think anybody should go into debt to put on a spectacular production for a wedding. You don't need to spend a fortune on a dress, either. If you have enough money to make it a big production and that's what's done in your family, then go for it.

Those of us who were raised in frugal circumstances can figure out ways to do things for less money and still have good time or put on a good party.

My thoughts are "small wedding" and huge party at a later date.

Get creative!

I agree with you 100%. I have noticed criminal wastage of food, electricity, water etc. during some marriages. In my view they have to be punished. Marriages should be simple and memorable. Instead wasting money, the couple can invest the money in some productive area or they can go for a better honeymoon than what they have planned.

In fact extravagance depends on the financial position of the parties involved. It hurts those who are striving to maintain their limited financial position in the society.
Thank you for the question.

All you have to do is inform IRS about such marriages.

They will discourage them wildly.
