What makes a better small animal pet? A guinea pig, dwarf rabbit, or chinchilla? I can't get something that resembles a rat (because of my mom) and those are my 3 choices I've decided on. I am 15 years old and I am wondering what would be the best choice. If you have any good information on why and not just an opinion that would be great! Thanks. :]]

all 3 make nice pets, they also take about the same amount of care.. they all require different care, but pretty much the same.
Chinchilla's have soft fur. They cannot take regular baths with water.. they need special dust to take a "dust bath" with. They also do no do well in heat. They need a cooler climate. If you dont have a/c and live in a hot area, you may want to cross this one off your list.
Guinea pigs are sociable animals. They are also very talkative and vocal little creatures. They squeak and whistle to get your attention. Mom told me mine would always squeal right before I cam home from school. They also squealed everytime they heard the fridge door open.. because they wanted some lettuce!
Rabbits are nice pets too. Some of them can even be litter box trained! I reccommend getting a cage that has high sides tho, because some rabbits will mark, and if you dont have sides on the cage, they somehow manage to pee outside the cage!
Dont get a cage with a wire bottom for any of these critters. Its easier to clean, but its not good on their feet.
I like rats best too LOL.

I'm only responding to give an A+ to Joseph, II - that's the perfect response - no pet at all.
I volunteer at a local ferret shelter and SO many ferrets are brought in because teenagers have "gotten tired" of them or they're going off to college and the parents don't want the ferrets. With a teenager having limited time left in your home plus starting to drive, go on dates, etc - there's just not time for a pet.
Ask yourself instead what pet YOU want that the teen might enjoy - bearing in mind that you will be fully responsible for every aspect of its care and the one continuing to care for it after the teen is off at school or moved out on his/her own.

DO NOT get a chinchilla. i had one wen i was 14. they make huge messes and its a pain in the *** to clean out their cages every week. they dont have much personalities and just run wen u try to catch them. they are very loud and annoying and do not shut the hell up. i ended up selling mine for 100 bucks tho. they are pretty darn soft though. my advice is get a fish tank because i gurantee in time you will find better things to do than clean a cage.

Rats are sweet compasionate babies. Since you cannot get a rat I would get a rabbit. They are very social creatures. Good Luck

i saay a rabbit, i am sixteen now but when i was fifteen i have a rabbit. they are awesome, i say a rabbit. but ask your mom if you can just get fish instead maybe?i have a fish tank now. it might be better than a rabbit.

The older a teenager gets- the LESS time it tends to have to spend- with a pet. So it'd be WISE either NOT to get one at ALL- or to get one that requires very little attention & care.

i would say a gold fish,because an older teenager has to much going on to be tied down.and mom would love it.
